The Perception II is one of the most popular "weather stations" used by amateur meteorologists. It monitors indoor climate using long-tested, high-quality sensors. Temperature, barometric pressure and humidity are shown simultaneously on one easy-to-read display. Chose one to be featured with a larger display. When pressure in mb is selected, the value is shown precise to a tenth of mb as required for careful maritime applications.

Though generally thought of as a household instrument to monitor homes, wine cellar, greenhouses or any other climate dependent area, it is also a good solution for a marine barometer on board. Stock model requires AC power, but an optional 12v DC adapter is available. It also uses a 9v backup battery (not included) to protect data during power failures.

The crucial pressure data from this instrument are as accurate as (or better than) any electronic barometer in this price range, and it has many more users and a longer history than most.

Comes complete with AC power adapter and detailed instruction book. Can run on batteries for about 30h as a backup to power failure. A PC option (USB or serial port) is available for downloading and analyzing the data in a computer.

The trend arrow shows steady, rising, and falling with level arrow, diagonal up, or diagonal down arrow. Steady means change in last hour is less than 0.02" = 0.7 mb, which in Starpath terms is 4.2 mb per 6/hr. Fast change up or down is greater than 4.2 mb/6hr, so their use of trends is similar to our 4-5-6 guide in the Barometer Handbook, except they update this display every hour, whereas its real significance comes in 6-hr intervals... though clearly we are paying attention after 3 hours of down arrow.

Please refer to the full Perception II Owner's Manual for details, including programmable alarms and other options.

This instrument has very good documentation in the manual on all features and aspects of its use. To further expand on the important setting process we have written up here a short note on Setting the Perception II.

Personal calibration option is available for this instrument, with which you will be able to obtain pressures accurate to ±0.5 mb or better. Without calibration, the factory specification for this instrument is ±1.7 mb, once set to a proper pressure. During the calibration, measurements at each pressure are compared with our certified in-house National Institute of Standards calibration barometer and documented on the certificate.
