Commercial version versus free download?

Starpath NavRules for WinHelp is free of charge when downloaded from this site, but it remains a copyrighted, licensed product and cannot be modified, sold, or included in commercial products nor used in any commercial application without prior arrangements with Starpath. Alternatively, a commercial version of this product, described below, is available from authorized software outlets. What happens when you download? You will be transferring a self-extracting compressed file called nrwh.exe which is about 300 kb in size. When you click download you will be asked to specify the location on your machine where you want to store the file. Once downloaded, go to that location and Run nrwh.exe, either by double clicking it in File Manager or Explorer, or by executing Run from Start button or from File menu in Program Manager. That execution will ask where you want to store the 3 uncompressed files (Nrwh.hlp, Nrwh.cnt, and Readme.txt, a total of about 800 kb) and then will offer you the option of automatically opening the NavRules file. Naturally, you can quit or redirect the process at any stage. To create a convenient program launcher, drag the file nrwh.hlp into some program group or your Start button. You can purchase a commercial version of this product which includes an automatic set-up manager which will recognize which type of Windows you are running (95, NT, or 3.1) and install it properly, build the program groups, start-up icons, and so forth. The commercial version also includes a copy of the USCG practice questions on Nav Rules presented in MS Word format as well as a MS Access file of such questions built with a convenient form for users to add their own comments and notes on each question as they study them. A file called diagrams.hlp is included which presents all the illustrations used in the USCG rules questions. The Internet Demo Tour of the NavRules shows how these questions are presented and how to use them. The commercial version is $16.95 and is available from Starpath and other marine software outlets. Another alternative If you do not care about having a copy of the exam questions, but just want a convenient set of the Rules that can be installed or run from a CD without installation, then you do get a copy of this same product with our Bowditch Plus! CD. The Rules part of that product is the same as NavRules for WinHelp but the USCG exam questions and diagrams are not included. In short... You can download the complete Rules file itself for free if you are at ease in such maneuvers as well as in moving them around and such on your computer once you get them. But the practice questions and diagrams are not included. For $16.95 from Starpath or elsewhere, you get the complete Rules with convenient installer along with the practice questions and diagrams.
