Topic: AWS and AWA

In your sample logbook page, there is a column labeled AWS and one labeled AWA. I cannot figure out what these abbreviations might stand for. I'm sure it's something obvious, but I guess it's not obvious enough for me. Please fill in the blanks. Thanks.

Sorry about that. It is in the online weather course glossary but was not in the coastal nav glossary. AWS = apparent wind speed and AWA = apprarent wind angle. I have added these to the online coastal nav course glossary... also don't feel bad about not recognizing them. These are abbreviations we use, but they are by no means universal or standard abbreviations.

Thanks. As a sailor, I regularly note both the wind speed and direction, but I just hadn't seen those particular abbreviations.
