These barometers are being shipped (at least for now) with the batteries disengaged with plastic spacers. This saves battery life while they sit on the shelf but adds a step to getting them going for the first time.

In other words, the on-off switch will not turn it on till you remove the battery separator.

Thus when you get the device, remove the mounting bracket (two small screws on the top) and open the battery case and remove the small clear plastic tab to engage the batteries. Then put the battery compartment lid back on and use the mount as you choose to mount it. Careful not to over-tighten the screws that hold the mount to the frame. The plastic mounting bracket is thin at that location.

We recommend that you date the batteries to learn more specifically of their lifetime for your typical usage.

Units shipped from Starpath are now being opened and set to English language, millibars, °F, and the battery protector removed.
