Topic: Ho minus Hc for Box 6

On page 5-12 of the home study book, bottom of the left hand column, where discussing Step 8, you say: 'If the degrees part of Hc and Ho are not the same, rewrite the larger of the two so that it has the same degrees as the smaller. I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Can you assist?

This is so you can do the arithmetic accurately. For instance, if you had an Hc of 54° 05' and an Ho of 53° 45', it's not readily apparent what the difference (intercept) is. But if you borrow one degree (60') from 54° and make Hc 53° 65' it's easy to see the difference is 20'.
