Hello,
I've now encountered a similar issue to others: I've noticed that we are pushed to either Pub 229 or the NAO tables or Pub. 249 Vol. 1 for star declinations above and below 29° even though we are training with Form 104 and Pub. 249 Vol. 2 and 3. I'm also in the small group probably that wants to learn celestial without using cel nav calculators/programs.
So regarding 229 and Form 104, I've found the document at Starpath entitled "Use of Pub 229 for sight reduction in the Starpath Cel Nav book." In that document, we are referred several times to the 229 instructions. I've looked through the 229 instructions and they are extensive. Are there parts of these instructions that are most important for using 229 alongside Form 104?
I'm using the 2008 book and it would have been great to have a section on 229 added to the already extensive in-depth material in Ch. 11.
I guess I want to be able to take star sights with confidence without worrying about whether their declinations are between 29N and 29S (assuming I'm not using Pub 249 Vol 1, which I plan to do, as well as the Star Finder 2102-D along with your book. But even precomputing with 2102-D still raises the problem of which sight reduction tables to use).
thanks, Mark
