I have tried this and triple checked the figures and still cannot agree with the book answer.
Book answer:55 19.0' My answer:55 13.2'
Some of my figures are:
Line 1-4:54 5.9'
Line 1-6 54 21.2'
Line 2-2:35 38.8'
Line 3-2: N19 34.4
Line 3-3: d-value -.5 d-corr -.0
Line 3-4:19 34.4

Where am I going astray?

Hs = 54° 05.0', dip = -2.9', IC = -2.0', so Ha = 54° 0.1', alt cor = + 15.3', so Ho = 54° 15.4', and z = 90° - Ho = 35° 44.6' and lat = z + dec = 54 79.0 = 55° 19.0'. Does that help track down the error?

That is no problem. the main goal of our studies is to make the mistakes now so they are out of our system by the time we get underway.

It is often difficult to spot errors we have made ourselves going back over the same work. Some times it pays to start all over again with new paper and maybe even new problem. then the light might come on to what was wrong earlier.
