in final adjustment in taking sun sight which way do you turn Vernier? set at 0 correct? go clockwise?thanks Joe

You would turn the drum in the direction necessary to keep the SUN in position tangent to the horizon. Then any subsequent adjustments would be in the same direction. If you were to turn the drum in the opposite direction, for subsequent adjustments, you risk moving the worm teeth to the other side of contact due to the gap in the teeth (a manufacturing consequence). This can throw an error into your sextant reading.
