In section 12.11 paragraph 8. when figuring time on a windward tack we sould "do what" with the 1.5? Sould we figure the time on the straght course and then multipy that by 1.5 to get the time to distanation on a windward tack?

Thanks for finding this. There is a missing phrase at that location, which we will now note in the tech support section where typos and other such errors or corrections are posted.
It should say, to estimate how long it will take to tack a given route, figure the time it would take you to sail the rhumbline route directly there without tacking, and then multiply that time by 1.5. The approximations leading to this are discussed in the article. [Note that this rule would not work for an America's Cup yacht since they sail so much closer to the wind than a normal sailboat does.]
