Weather Resources and other Starpath products install fine, but Weather Trainer hangs up in the process or fires off some completely unrelated program during the process.

This usually means that some other program installation has corrupted your temp directory, ie windows crashed during an install at some point in time and left temporary files in the temp directory that should have been removed or the installation of an earlier program simply did not clean out the temp directory as it should have.

Solution: for Win 98 or ME, rename the folder c:\windows\temp to c:\windows\temp-old and then create a new folder c:\windows\temp.

The active temp directory that needs to be recreated in win2000 is called c:\winnt\temp. In win XP it is also called c:\windows\temp, but winXP offers other options that might change this to another directory. If you do have a c:\windows\temp directory and it will not let you rename it, then look for files in that directory called setup and rename them to xsetup and try the install again. That should solve the problem. Note that everything in that directory called setup should indeed be temporary and this operation should not affect anything you are running.

Please see related install problem note in the Chart Trainer section, which has more detail on folder locations.
