Please remember that all registered users whether they purchased the product as hardware or as software have free upgrades to the latest version.
New registration KEYs are NOT required if you alreaddy have a serial number beginning 1010- for the PC version or 1013- for the sp-89 version. If you have an older version (1893- for the PC or 1874- for the sp-89 version), you can send an email to [email protected] with your old serial number and they will replace it with a new one, so you can register the latest version.
Old serial numbers would be confirmation that you do not have the latest versions.
The latest and likely last version of the StarPilot-86 is ver 1.55 dated july 17, 2003. If your version is from 2000 or 2001, it would be worth updating (some improvements were added), but otherwise there was little change.
An older version, however, does not mean out dated. The only better calculator than this one (at any price) is the StarPilot-89 and the differences are mostly on the interface, not on what it does or the accuracy of the results, etc, because it uses the same internal computations. The 89 is a bit faster and includes a few extra functions such as computing accurate magnetic variation for any location... but the cel nav functions are essentially all the same. the 89 does have more memory, so it may get new functionality as time goes by, whereas the 86 is in its final state.
Latest version of the StarPilot-89 is 2.05 dated dec 23, 2005. ======================UPDATE=============== Latest version now is dated Mar 24, 2010 and this is one needed for the most accurate magnetic variation computations. It will last for 10 years.
