We received this helpful note from Herman Dekker. Thank you Herman.

The TI-89 Titanium has a SR44SW backup battery. Do NOT use the cheaper LR44 Alkaline battery, if it ends its life, it starts leaking and destroys the TI-89 titanium
contacts. The SR44SW is a long life silver oxide chemistry with non-declining power output; alkaline batteries of
the same 1.5 voltage start at 1.5 and at the half life are at .8 volts, silver oxide start at 1.55 volts and maintain the voltage until expiring.
