We have added several sections to our online weather course on the use of grib data for forecasting. There is a section on sources and various software readers as well as a new section on the unique values of this source of information -- all of which comes with the cautions of how we must first evaluate the data to be sure it is consistent with actual weather maps and professional forecasts.

We gained a lot of practical North Atlantic Ocean experience with this approach to forecasting as we monitored the progress of the four seattle rowers crossing the Atlantic this summer.
