According to formula U= 40/(D*sin(Lat)) on equator always should be winds with infinite speed. For what latitude does this formula work?

I note that you are registered in the online weather course, so I will move this topic to the Student Discussion forum and answer there with some background. The short answer is above Latitudes of about 15º... and there are other caveats to the use of that formula.
