Rules for usage...
To take part in the online Classroom you must agree to abide by these simple Rules. Those who do not abide by the Rules will be blocked from participation.

(1) First the obvious, no profanity or derogatory remarks of any kind. Please keep all communications polite. We have a large audience of all ages and backgrounds. Let us please respect each other's sensibilities.

(2) Please keep messages brief and to the point. Treat these posts as if they were marine radio communications. We want to keep the course content forums focused. The course forums (Student and Public Discussion forums) are not "chat rooms."

We do have Chat Rooms in many of the courses for students who are participating in that course. These chat rooms are for the typical discussion that occurs during coffee breaks in our classroom courses. A place to get to know each other, discuss plans, share experiences, and so forth. We have had students meet for the first time in these chats, and actually end up getting together to go sailing and practice navigation. Chat Rooms are not open to the public, but only to students enrolled in a course.

(3) Anyone visiting the Starpath website can navigate to the Public Discussion Groups and read the discussion there on several topics. But only those with a registered WebCard, logged in to the Starpath site, can actually post new questions or comments, or reply to those already there. To see the discussion within one of our online courses, however, you must be enrolled in that course. There are extended discussion groups within the courses devoted to the course subject matter, as well as the General Discussion groups outside of the courses.

(4) All forums are "moderated," which means all messages will be read by a moderator with authority to edit the message, as they think best for all participants. In some cases the moderator may move a message to another forum if more appropriate. Any significant editing would be immediately reported to the person who posted the message. The most common edit is to expand or clarify the Subject line.
