I am having some problems in getting a-lat. I have read through the book a few times and from what I can see they show me to take the a-lat from box 4 but that does not equal the same in box six.. Anyone who can steer me in the right direction?

The a-lat (assumed latitude) is the latitude nearest your DR. With this question's DR of 28° 44' S, you'd use 29° 00' S.

You write this same 29° 00' S into box 6 so that you will have in one place all the info you need to go to the plotting sheet - intercept (a), true bearing (Zn) to the sun, and the latitude (a-lat) and longitude (a-lon) of the point from which you lay off the bearing, mark the intercept and draw the LOP.
