Author Topic: Hawaii by Sextant, AP choice on Prob, 9 Vega

On page 45 in the book, the GHA of Vega is calculated to be 200 degrees, 39.3 minutes. The DR longitude is 134 degrees 11minutes (W). The a- long was selected as 133 degrees 39.3 minutes. This is more than a 30 minute difference from the DR longitude.

Should the a-long be 134 degrees 39.3 minutes?

Thank you

You may have an early printing of the book. In my copy the a-Lon is 39.3'. You can download a new ebook copy of the text that has several updates.

In this particular case, it looks like this AP must have been changed, but in other examples, we actually left the less optimum AP choice to illustrate the effect of wrong choice, which is usually, but not always very small.

Here is where you download the latest version:

You will need the s/n that came with the book purchase. If you no longer have that, or purchased the book from a source other than Starpath, then please call us and we will provide this.
