I started looking at "Hawaii by Sextant," and realized that I'm still unsure about how to average a series of sights. Fig. A5 shows that the 2nd and 3rd sun sight in Prob. 1 are the two best sights. Do you reduce these sights and take the average of the a-values and Zns.

Once you have completed the fit-slope analysis as shown in the figure and conclude that #2 or #3 are equally good, you could choose either one, as best, or chose a point on the line between them and read Hs and WT from the scales for that point and use that value.
Since the values plotted have been corrected for course and speed, you could just average the two as well, ie average Hs at average WT.
These are from a specific example in the book, so you could try all three methods and compare them.
