Interesting. If I use a bearing of 330°M from Chilmark Spire at 1745 (orange) and 018°T at 1845 (green), I get the answer in the back of the book. But was this mix of true and magnetic bearings intended?

Or did I just get it wrong?

No, we never try to intentionally mix up anything.

I believe we have notes elsewhere (maybe the textbook or workbook introduction) specifying that any bearing, direction, or course not otherwise specified is true, but it seems this can still be confusing, so we have changed this exercise for next printings to magnetic bearings and provided new answer, and this is now in the errata as such. That will be simpler and clearer specification of the exercise. We may have others to fix this way as well in both workbooks.
