Sometimes you might need to draw and arc for a cricle of position and not have a drafting compass or other such device at hand to do the job.

There are a couple tricks that can be used underway or at home doing practice problems.

For smaller ranges, use dividers to poke two holes in a piece of card paper at the separation you want the arc to be. Then put the divider point in one and a pencil point in the other and use that to draw the circle.

Or for longer circles, use a piece of string with a nice bowland at the end of the string for the divider point, adjust the string length as needed by wrapping the string around the pencil. Hold the pencil vertical to the paper, and swing the arc that way.
