Win XP changed some basic associations that Windows has used since the first edition. We use text files ending in .wri which till now would open automatically in Wordpad, a standard MS program in all computers. In latest XP versions this association is not automatic.

You can fix this by going to any file in the computer that ends in wri and associate it with whatever word processor you have.

Procedure: From Start button, choose Search... for files or folders , then All files and folders, then in the field marked All or part of the file name type *.wri.

then when it finds the first one, press stop, then Right click any one of the files, and choose Open with, and then select your favorite word processor and then put a checkmark in the box that says always use this program for this type of file.

that should fix the issue permanently.
