Yes, if you have not updated your program after Jan 1, 2005 you will not get mag var to work. These are very precise computations and they need the latest data, which is available every five years. We have added the new data for 2005 on Dec 20th. You can download the new program and install to get this working again. There is no charge.

If you are stuck somewhere and need a variation, just use 2004 for the date and you will get something that is certainly right to within 30' or so for most parts of the world, and generally much better than old charts.

new variation epoch now online since mar 23, 2010. this will last for 10 years.
