I purchased a new digital marine barometer. I am wanting to use it to learn about weather. In setting the barometer, I see advice on locating airports and buoy data centers. Can you tell me how to contact data from local Coast Guard stations along the Illinois shore of Lake Michigan? Can Coast Guard stations give barometer settings and also the elevation above sea level for seeting the barometer, or, do I have to use airport or buoy data ceter? Thank you

The procedure for calibration and how to find the data are presented in the barometer tech support section.

The USCG data are from the national buoy center. These data are all corrected to sea level pressures. Go to that link, and just click the graph (western great lakes) to home in on your region of interest, then click one of the buoys or lighthouses. there are two in IL waters:

Calumet, IL at http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=cmti2 and
Chicago, IL at http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=chii2
