We apologize for the delay. Somehow we did not get notice of this question till it showed up in the online course. we have the same answer in both places now... and will check to see what caused the misfire.

--------

The worldwide fax schedules can be downloaded at

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/rfax.pdf

they have been updating these about once a year.

the best us data would be from NMG (new orleans) with maps like these

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb_latest/pac24_latestBW.gif

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb_latest/pacsea_latestBW.gif

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb_latest/pacsfc24_latestBW.gif

which you get from the NMG,whose main page is

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb-pac.shtml

i think that some of these are also broadcasted on NMC (san francisco) fax and on those schedules are called tropical maps: see http://www.opc.ncep.noaa.gov/shtml/pacsch.shtml

---------------------

you can request these by ftpmail to be sent to the boat i believe, but i will have to check this and get back to you.

The restriction of getting data by only conventional weather fax however, is becoming more of a limitation as time goes by in that many more services and products are available if you have a computer with a sat phone or HF radio attached. Then you can get on the boat just about any data you can get on the internet.

Also there is a book devoted to Mexican Weather by John Rains. You can seach inside the book online at

http://www.amazon.com/MexWX-Weather-Boaters-John-Rains/dp/0963847015

try searching on Puerto Vallarta and you get many references.

he also discusses the wx fax and with the searching function at amazon, you can read all about it.
