middle latitudes Sometimes used to mean the temperate latitudes, between the two polar regions, or sometimes more restrictively to mean the more central parts of these zones, from latitudes of about 30° to 60°. This latter use would describe weather regions away from the trade winds and tropic weather and out of the influence of most arctic weather. Sometimes also used to mean between the tropics and the polar regions. Also spelled midlatitudes or mid-latitudes. See Mid-latitude
