Sailing Directions These books cover information similar to that presented in the US Coast Pilots but for foreign waters. They are produced by the NGA. See Coast Pilot for a discussion of the contents. The term is also used generically to describe any book or text that discusses navigational matters and related information for mariners. It also serves to some extent to be a compilation of the "local knowledge" of the regions covered. Canadian coast pilots are called sailing directions. The British Admiralty sailing directions are called pilots. They are listed under Pilots. See Source Book for information on obtaining these publications.
