squall days The number of days per year that a particular region experiences squalls. The term is used to compare squall frequencies in various locations. On the east coast of the United States, the number of squall days varies from 20 in New England to 90 in Central Florida. The entire west coast has less than 5 squall days per year. These data are based on land measurements of thunderstorms. It is probable that these land based measurements underestimate the actual number of squalls observed offshore. Note that in general on land or sea, if conditions are right for squall formation, then there are likely to be many squalls during that period. |
