summer The warmest season of the year. In the Northern Hemisphere, Summer begins astronomically at the summer solstice and ends at autumnal equinox. In the Southern Hemisphere the limits are the winter solstice and the vernal equinox. From a meteorological point of view, the definition of Summer varies with the locality and the year.
