wavelength

The distance between corresponding points in consecutive cycles of a wave train, measured in the direction of propagation at any instant. The distance, for example, from crest to crest. The wavelength can be determined from the wave period as described in RES-2 on sea state.

Wavelength in water waves is illustrated in G112. The analogy in electromagnetic waves is shown in G183.

Wavelength as applied to radio waves is discussed in the Radio Primer.
