inshore traffic zone

Vessel Traffic Systems divide water ways up into several zones. There are the two main traffic lanes, outbound and inbound, a separation zone between them, and the two so-called inshore zones, which are the water ways between the outside edges of main traffic lanes and the shorelines. Rule 10 (d) discusses the use of VTS lanes and inshore zones. See also Table 26.03(f) on VHF channel assignments.

Note that "inshore zone" and "inshore traffic zone" is the same thing.

Note too, that the definition of "shoreline" as the inside limit is not literal. It means up to the navigable water limits along the shoreline, which are determined by water depth, local hazards, and buoys or beacons.
