tide tables

Generically this means any set of tables that give the predicted times of high and low water each day of the year.

Prior to 2021, NOAA published four books of annual tide predictions, one for the East Coast of North and South America including Greenland and one for the West Coast of North and South America including the Hawaiian Islands. These included daily data from numerous reference stations (now called harmonic stations) along with an extensive table (called Table 2) of time and height corrections for 2,613 (East Coast) and 1,305 (West Coast) subordinate stations.

Prior to 2021, NOAA also published two other books of annual international tides, covering 3,452 stations around the world, but these books and all international predictions ended in 2020. The 2020 Table 2 tide corrections are still (as of 2023) in print from third party printers, despite the fact that much of the data are no longer valid, and none is certified by NOAA.

Other data historically included in these tables, however, can still be useful such as Table 9 summary of average tides across the regions covered and tables for interpolating the predictions. Links to the last official printings that include these extra data are at starpath.com/navbook.

Our primary source for tide data is now www.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov, at which site we can print an annual set of tide tables for any station. It takes 4 pages per station.
