National Data Buoy Center

A branch of the National Weather Service that coordinates the live weather observations from Buoys and Lighthouses around the US and though many other parts of the world as well. See National Data Buoy Center (NDBC). It is one of the 3 main online sites for marine weather, including Ocean Prediction Center and the National Hurricane Center.

Note that we might be tempted to think the name is backwards in that they present buoy data, but the better way to think of this is they present the fruits of what are called "data buoys." In any event, this is the main place you go to see what the marine weather is doing at a particular location and in the neighborhood around it.

Abbreviation:  NDBC
