sting in the scorpion's tail

This is the original name of a bend back occlusion that has a tighter pressure gradient on the trailing side of the associated Low than it does on the leading side. This leads to the unusual behavior of the strong wind of a passing Low actually getting stronger when the pressure starts to rise as the Low passes.

The occlusion looks like a scorpion. These are very serious weather patterns. Some of the most famous storms were associated with this type of pattern.
