current jet

A unique coastal current effect similar to the focused jet stream within the winds aloft. Jets of current speeds up to 2 kts or more in areas normal for 0.5 kts or so are known around the world. They often occur in the vicinity of the continental shelf. They are often not predicted and can have a notable affect on coastal navigation.
