pick report

This is the description of all objects on an ENC at a particular point that pops up on the screen, which is obtained by a cursor pick of that point. It will start with the Lat and Lon of the point and then progress down the list, in principle from the most prominent object on down to the most basic. The report for clicking a light might start with the light object and all its attributes, then the beacon object it is mounted on, and all of its attributes, then the sea area where it is located, then maybe the sea bed area, then the depth area, and so on.

Each object also has a minimum scale that it will appear on (SCAMIN) and this important attribute is also given.

What is shown, the order of the objects, and how the report is presented is all up to the navigation program in use. There is an international standard for the display, and though most meet the letter of the standard, the actual presentation can vary notably from one nav program to the next, not to mention that there are official options to this display in some details.

The IMO and IHO discourages the use of the abbreviations, so they are not always given, but we believe there is some virtue in using some of them.
