rescheming

This is the NOAA process of reformatting all of the ENC charts to make their sizes, aspect ratios, chart names, and scales follow a logical pattern. These parameters vary wildly in the present ENC system. The scales and new contours structure will also better match the international standards. This process will bring with it a new set of scale bands that have systematic boundaries and ranges.

The program is intended to be completed by the time the US will have replaced all RNC and paper charts with ENC. The aspect ratio and coverage of the new ENC will vary according to three new rescheming latitude ranges. The file sizes of the new charts will remain consistent with existing international rules of less than 5 MB. See present status of rescheming. See also scale band.
