RTOFS

Real Time Ocean Forecast System (RTOFS) is a numerical ocean model that predicts ocean surface currents and sea surface temperatures (SST). It provides forecasts out 8 days, every 12 hours. The model is computed daily. The resolution is (1/12)º, which is about 60/12 = 5 nmi between data points, which is rather high resolution for such forecasts.

The RTOFS forecasts are global, but do not cover the Mediterranean sea. The data is readily available; essentially any navigation or weather program offers access to it in grib format. RTOFS is also available from Saildocs. For specific areas there could be more accurate data in the NCOM model.
