marks in qtVlm

Reference points on the chart, saved for any reason, in qtVlm are by default called "points of interest" (POI). Once a POI location is selected (right click the chart and choose top link "New mark), you can change the default category to a "mark" or a "beacon." The only distinction this makes is you can change the size and color of each category. There is no difference in how they behave.

Once you create a route or pathway between a sequence of marks, POI, or beacons, these reference points are then internally called waypoints, and when we are actively sailing or motoring toward one (meaning in the next or active waypoint) we will see a WP notice in the bottom right of the screen telling us the next waypoint.
