Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology standard that is used for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices over short distances. A typical range limit is 30 feet or so.

There are Bluetooth GPS units that work well. Some can connect to 5 or 6 different devices at the same time, plus serve as data loggers as well. Others are more basic, direct connect, one device, GPS only.

For more detail on this complex standard, see the wikipedia entry.
