global model

A numerical weather prediction program that computes the full atmosphere giving forecasts for the full globe. The resolution (about 28 km) and time steps (3 to 6 hr) are typically larger than found in regional models, and these models do not typically account for shape and texture of land. Examples include the GFS from the US; GDPS from Canada; DWD from Germany; and ECMWF from European Community. See Regional model
