regional model

A numerical weather prediction program that focuses on local or regional conditions, usually taking into account the shape and texture of the land. They have higher resolutions (1.3 to 3 km) than global models and offer more frequent forecasts for shorter time periods—hourly, typically, but some are sub-hourly.

For inland and near coastal work we must rely on regional models. Examples include HRRR, National Blend of Models (NBM), National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD), NAM, and others.

See LuckGrib links to these models in numerical weather prediction.
