tidal stream ENC object

Tidal Stream - Flood/Ebb (TS_FEB) is an ENC object with attributes of category (flood or ebb), current speed (kts) and current direction (true degrees 0 to 360). The symbol on a chart is shown below along with a typical cursor pick of the object. The cursor pick is on the arrow, not on the label.

The fixed current speed shown is the average value of the current in that cycle. In principle this is supposed to be the spring averages, but the US data seem to be just the averages, so we keep in mind that springs would be about 20% bigger. Also note these are averages not peak values. Again, these are permanent averages for those stations; what we read on these will not change with time.

These reports are totally independent of what we read for the qtVlm tide and current reports. Those are all computed by the program and the harmonics we have loaded. They tell the value of the current at specific times and are our main workhorse, but these depend on the harmonics. The TS_FEB are official Hydrographic Office data (NOAA in the US case.)

You can find flood or ebb from the cursor pick, but remember that the "Flood has the Feathers," so you can read that from the object labels. In principle there would be one of these TS_FEB objects near all the official stations, which are marked by the harmonic stations we can show in qtVlm. In cases where they do not appear, it could be that NOAA has removed that station, but this is just not yet reflected in the harmonics we are using.
