2. A chain or very strong fiber or wire rope used to anchor or moor vessels or buoys.

3. A stranded conductor or an assembly of two or more electric conductors insulated from each other, but laid up together with a strong, waterproof covering. One carrying an electric current for degaussing a vessel is called a degaussing cable. An insulated, waterproof wire or bundles of wires for carrying an electric current underwater is called a submarine cable. A cable carrying an electric current, signals from or the magnetic influence of which indicates the path to be followed by a craft equipped with suitable instruments is called a leader cable. A coaxial cable consists of two concentric conductors insulated from each other.
