dekameter A unit of ten meters. Not often used, other than for the heights of the 500-mb surface on 500-mb maps. A height of 18,000 ft (5487.8 m) will be labeled as 549, meaning 549 dekameters. This is sometimes spelled decameter, but the NIST recommends dekameter.
