drizzle Very small, numerous, and uniformly dispersed water drops that may appear to float while following air currents. Unlike fog droplets, drizzle falls to the ground. It usually falls from low stratus clouds and is frequently accompanied by low visibility and fog. Drizzle is distinguished from rain by the drop size. Drops of drizzle have diameters less than 0.02 inches. Light drizzle means the visibility is more than 5/8ths of a mile; in moderate drizzle, the visibility is from 5/16th to 5/8th of a mile; and in heavy drizzle the visibility is less than 5/16th of a mile.
