International Sailing Federation ISAF (formerly called IYRU, International Yacht Racing Union) is the official international governing body for the sport of sailing. At one time primarily involved with yacht racing although the various national authorities (all linked) also support and promote cruising sailing as much as racing these days. Royal Ocean Racing Club The Royal Ocean Racing Club is a club in London. It was established in 1925 as the Ocean Racing Club, as a result of a race to the Fastnet Rock from Cowes, finishing in Plymouth. The RORC is the principal organiser of offshore yacht races in the United Kingdom, including the Fastnet Race, the Admiral's Cup and the Commodores' Cup. RORC was founded to encourage long distance yacht racing and the design, building and navigation of sailing vessels in which speed and seaworthiness are combined. |

Royal Yachting Association One of the oldest and largest sailing associations. Excellent training in all aspects of sailing and navigation. They provide an extensive certification program, which leads to official licensing in the UK. They have a big advantage in membership and resources in that this one organization governs the entire UK, whereas in the US we are parsed into at least four national organizations with the same goals. |

United States Power Squadrons Offers frequent courses in boating safety as well as navigation and weather. Class schedules online as well as other general resources for boaters. More power than sail, but still many sailors involved. Their marine weather course is excellent. |
