About Weather Trainer Live

Starpath Weather Trainer Live is the 4th edition of the award winning original program written by David Burch that has been used worldwide since the mid 1990s. It is called Live because it now integrates directly with live worldwide weather data on the Internet as well as with the Starpath interactive online marine weather course.

Most of the program content is stored online where it can be updated as called for by changes in weather technology and services. Once accessed from any Internet connection using the custom Weather Trainer viewer, the materials can be printed for study away from the computer as desired.

Internet-based sofware programming as done with the new Weather Trainer Live is often referred to as "Cloud-based" technology. It is different from PC based software in that users must be online to interact with the program, but it has the great advantage of providing the latest version at all times, always available to users regardlesss of a specific PC failure, and it is independent of changing PC operating systems.

Weather Trainer Live also integrates with the author's textbooks Modern Marine Weather and The Barometer Handbook, which are included in ebook format with the program.

The new Weather Trainer Live includes several resources from the original program that have been updated but remain in their original format. This component is called Weather Trainer Legacy. These components do not require an Internnet connection.

Thus the full training package consists of four components:

(1) Weather Trainer Live, viewed with a custom viewer using an Internet connection from any location.

(2) Modern Marine Weather and The Barometer Handbook ebooks viewed with the Elibra Reader, which can be read without an Internet connection using any Windows PC operating system.

(3) Weather Trainer Legacy, which is a stand alone PC program viewed from any Windows PC.

(4) The Starpath Online Marine Weather Course, which includes detailed assignements and practice exercises, instructor support, discussions among students and instructors, as well as quizzes at the end of each lesson that are graded and commented upon by the instructors. The online course has been active since 2002. It is based on the Starpath classroom course that has been taught since 1980.
