Movement of the Metacentre Due to the shape of the vessel, even at very small angles of heel the metrecentre will move by small amounts. The position of M may be determined using the formula: BM I/V where : I = the moment of Inertia of the waterplane in m4 units V = the volume of displacement in m3 BM = the distance between the Centre of Buoyancy and the Metacentre.
