chart A map intended primarily for marine (or aviation) navigation. There can be paper charts or electronic charts. NOAA discontinued all traditional paper charts in 2025, and now the only official NOAA nautical charts are the electronic navigational charts (ENC). The Starpath booklet ENC Essentials describes these charts. NOAA at the same time introduced a new way for mariners to create their own paper charts, to be used as a backup to ENC or in place of them. These are called NOAA Custom Charts (NCC).
