| weather 1. The state of the atmosphere as defined by various meteorological elements, such as temperature, pressure, wind speed and direction, humidity, cloudiness, precipitation, etc. This is in contrast with climate, the prevalent or characteristic meteorological conditions of a place or region. See also marine weather. 2. Bad weather (as in "we have some weather on the horizon"). See also thick weather. 3. Windward (as in looking or sailing "to weather"). 4. Also used as a verb to mean deteriorated by exposure to sun, wind, and rain, as in "the barn was weathered" or "the old salt had a weathered look about her." |
